The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is releasing its manifesto ahead of the upcoming national elections. Divided into five chapters, the manifesto will present a comprehensive outline of everything from state governance to economy, society, culture and regional development.

Party chairman Tarique Rahman will announce the manifesto on Friday (February 6) afternoon.

The first chapter of the manifesto emphasizes state system reform.

It talks about restoring democracy, the spirit of the Liberation War and the July Uprising, constitutional reform, national unity, good governance, independence of the judiciary, police reform and a strong local government system.

 

The second chapter highlights the commitment to non-discriminatory economic and social development. Special emphasis has been given to poverty alleviation, social security, women’s empowerment, agriculture and food security, nationwide employment, education and healthcare, workers and expatriate welfare, environmental protection, climate change mitigation and disaster management.

The third chapter of the manifesto contains plans for restructuring and restoring the fragile economy.

This chapter also includes plans to increase investment, reform the banking and financial sector, develop the industrial and service sectors, strengthen power and energy, information and communication technology, transport systems, creative economy and revenue management.

The fourth chapter outlines a regionally balanced development. This chapter includes plans to develop Chittagong as a commercial capital, develop the haor-baor and coastal areas, urbanization, housing, build a safe and sustainable Dhaka and develop the tourism sector.

Finally, the fifth chapter gives importance to religion, society, sports and culture.

This chapter of the manifesto promises religious harmony, the rights of the people of the hills and plains, development of sports, freedom of the media, the practice of art and culture and a strong restoration of morality.

The thirteenth national parliament elections and referendum will be held on February 12.
